Martyrium
In 2025, Franziska Nagelová created MARTYRIUM, a self-published photography zine developed through a deeply personal process of image-making, editing, writing, and hand-binding.
Created in the aftermath of physical illness and loss of her alcoholic mother, the publication explores the body as a place of memory, grief, endurance, and transformation. Through analog photography and poetic storytelling, MARTYRIUM reflects on inherited pain, emotional digestion, healing, and the quiet relationship between suffering and tenderness.
The work follows an intimate visual language where nature, color, and the body become witnesses to change. Flowers appear as gestures of care; saturated surfaces become emotional landscapes; the physical body becomes both archive and beginning.
Printed in 2025 through risography at MAGO studio, each copy carries slight variations in print, color and texture, making every zine a unique object.
The first edition consists of 18 handbound copies and includes a special fine art print available exclusively with this edition for 25€ all signed.
The second edition is limited to 50 copies only for 20€ each.
