Alternative Photography Workshops (not only) in Portugal
I’m Franziska Nagelová, a Czech-German analog photographer based in Porto, Portugal. I facilitate alternative photography workshops focused on sustainable, experimental, and nature-based photographic processes.
These workshops approach analog techniques with eco-conscious creativity, inviting participants to slow down, experiment, and explore photography as a sensory and reflective practice.

What these workshops are about
My workshops explore alternative and analog photography through hands-on experimentation with natural and sustainable processes.
You will work with:
-
Caffenol (natural coffee-based developer)
-
Chemilumens, Chemigrams, Phytograms
-
Cyanotype (eco-friendly blue prints using UV light) and Cyanolumens
-
Watergrams (experimental water + flash photography)
-
Sustainable lumen prints (light-based photographic exposure)
-
Sustainable chemistry (caffenol + saltwater processes)
Each method encourages creative exploration, sustainability, and a slower approach to image-making.

Featured workshops

Caffenol Workshop (Coffee Developer Photography)
Learn how to develop photographs using a natural developer made from coffee. We create experimental prints using sustainable chemistry and expired analog materials.
-
Duration: 2–3 hours
-
Includes contact prints and experimental techniques
-
Focus on eco-conscious darkroom practice

Cyanotype Workshop (Prussian Blue Printing)
One of the most accessible and sustainable photographic processes. We use UV light and natural materials to create deep blue photographic prints.
-
Duration: 2–3 hours
-
Works with natural objects, flowers, and light
-
Suitable for beginners

Sustainable Lumen Prints (Light & Time)
A slow photographic process using sunlight and natural exposure. Images develop over time and are not necessarily fixed.
-
Duration: 2–3 hours + development time
-
Works with light, paper, and natural materials
-
Results may not be fixed and dissolve

Additional experimental workshops
Watergram and sustainable chemistry workshops are available for deeper exploration of experimental analog photography, combining water, light, and natural development processes.
These sessions are often adapted depending on location and group size.
